To make your documents legally valid abroad, a special procedure is required — legalisation. This involves having a document translated, certified at a notary, and registered with the Justice Ministry. The legalisation process also includes registering the document with the Consular Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry and with the embassy of the country in which the documents are being submitted.
Please note that in
countries that are States parties to the Hague Convention a simplified form of legalisation is accepted: the
issuance of an Apostille (see the section
Issuance of an Apostille).
